How It Works

How An Mpi Ltf-Hp Works

MPI’s Liquid Trap Magnetic Separator is meticulously engineered for seamless integration into liquid processing systems, enhancing the extraction of ferrous impurities while maintaining optimal flow rates and overall system efficiency. This advanced magnetic separation technology is extensively utilized across industries such as food processing, chemicals, and paper milling, contributing to product purity, safeguarding equipment like pumps, and improving operational efficiency. High-intensity rare-earth magnetic tubes expertly capture even the smallest ferrous particles, keeping them securely positioned on the downstream side of the tubes to prevent recontamination. The system ensures continuous product flow without restrictions, facilitating efficient processing. It employs a gravity-based mechanism for non-magnetic separation, collecting non-ferrous contaminants in a sump located beneath the magnetic element to enhance overall filtration. Standard inlet and outlet sizes range from 1.5” to 12” in diameter, and it can easily integrate into existing pipelines with sanitary tri-clover, threaded, or ANSI 150-pound flanges. It is designed to operate at pressures of up to 150 PSI and temperatures reaching 248°F, with high-temperature models capable of withstanding up to 356°F based on configuration.

Step-by-Step Operation

Contaminant Capture

As the liquid traverses through the separator, it enters a robust magnetic field generated by high-intensity magnetic tubes. Ferrous contaminants are drawn to these tubes and held securely on the downstream side, preventing them from re-entering the product stream. This design efficiently eliminates tramp metal wash-off, even during sustained high-pressure operations.

Separation of Non-Magnetic Particles

Simultaneously, non-magnetic particulates are separated through gravity and amass in a sump at the bottom of the enclosure. This ensures thorough contaminant removal without disrupting the natural liquid flow.

Optimized Tube Configuration for Maximum Efficiency

MPI’s distinctive tube configuration is designed to facilitate the simple removal of ferrous contaminants while ensuring a continuous product flow. The magnetic tubes are available in two configurations tailored to various application needs:

  • An array of 1” diameter tubes, perfect for processing liquids, purees, and slurries with smaller particulates (up to ½”).

  • A single 3” diameter tube, ideal for products containing larger fragments or solids (up to 1”).

Routine Cleaning & Maintenance

For cleaning, quick-release clamps enable operators to easily access the magnetic assembly. Ferrous contaminants can be conveniently wiped away, allowing for swift maintenance with minimal downtime. Welded tube supports and decorative rings provide protection against bending or damage during cleaning, ensuring long-term durability.

MPI’s Liquid Trap Magnetic Separator is crafted for ongoing, highly effective metal removal while preserving optimal system performance. By proficiently extracting ferrous contaminants and filtering out non-magnetic particles, this system plays a crucial role in protecting pumps, enhancing product quality, and preventing costly disruptions.
