Ring Metal Detector (R)

The MPI Metal Detector R continuously monitors a ring-shaped electromagnetic field surrounding its aperture. As products drop vertically through the center of the ring, the sensor identifies any disturbances in the field caused by metal contaminants, which can be magnetic (ferrous), non-magnetic (such as aluminum and brass), or low conductivity (like stainless steel).

Upon detecting a contaminant, the sensor immediately signals the controller, which activates a reject device (such as a pneumatic diverter or rotary flap) located downstream. This mechanism ensures that only the contaminated portions of the product are removed while allowing the remainder to proceed through the process without interruption.

With its enclosed circular design, the R Sensor provides 360° detection coverage, making it highly efficient for applications where materials fall in a narrow, uniform stream. This feature is particularly beneficial in scenarios with space limitations, high flow rates, or where product consistency demands compact and responsive inspection systems.

The METAL SHARK® R is designed for optimal performance detecting magnetic and non-magnetic metals. It is commonly used in the medical-pharmaceutical sector, as well as in hygiene and food industries, and for various chemical powders. As products pass through the R sensor head, an optional reject unit ensures that even the smallest metal particles are quickly ejected from the product flow. Metal debris is automatically discarded. The reject unit is compatible with tube diameters ranging from 10 to 50 mm, and reject timing is controlled automatically by the metal detector's control box. It operates pneumatically. The hygienic housing is easy to clean, and all materials in contact with the product are FDA-approved, including PTFE and stainless steel.
