Automated Metal Separation with Zero Downtime Cleaning
The MPI Self-Clean Inline Pneumatic Drawer Magnet is an advanced magnetic separator engineered for high-efficiency ferrous metal removal in pressurized pneumatic conveying systems, without requiring manual disassembly or process interruption. Designed for use in sanitary and industrial environments where uptime, safety, and product purity are critical, this system uses powerful rare-earth magnetic tubes arranged in a staggered configuration to extract fine and weakly magnetic contaminants from dry, free-flowing powders, granules, and regrind.
Unlike quick-clean models, the self-clean version fully automates the cleaning cycle, using pneumatically actuated stripper plates to remove collected ferrous debris and discharge it outside the product stream. This hands-free, tool-free design reduces labor, eliminates cross-contamination risks, and increases overall process efficiency.
Its hygienic, stainless-steel housing integrates seamlessly into horizontal or vertical conveying lines and supports compliance with FDA, USDA, and cGMP standards. With customizable configurations, it is ideal for demanding applications in food processing, plastic production, pharmaceuticals, and other high-throughput bulk material industries.
Benefits of the Self-Clean Inline Pneumatic Drawer Magnet From Magnetic Products, Inc
-
Fully Automated Self-Cleaning Mechanism
The integrated pneumatic self-cleaning system allows the unit to purge captured ferrous contaminants at timed intervals or on demand without stopping production. The magnets remain in place while internal stripper plates move over the cartridges to wipe off debris and eject it through a discharge chute, enabling continuous operation and maximum uptime.
-
High-Intensity Rare Earth Magnets
Equipped with powerful rare-earth magnets (up to 12,000+ Gauss), the unit efficiently captures even the smallest and weakest ferrous particles. The magnetic tubes are precisely arranged to expose the entire product stream to the magnetic field, ensuring complete separation in high-velocity airflow.
-
Sanitary, Dust-Tight Stainless-Steel Housing
Constructed from polished 304 or 316 stainless steel with welded seams and food-grade gaskets, the housing maintains pressure integrity, prevents product leakage, and meets food and pharmaceutical sanitary requirements. Optional polished interior finishes support CIP/SIP standards.
-
Compliance Ready
Supports adherence to food and drug regulations (FDA, USDA, cGMP, HACCP) and can be configured with polished welds, documentation packages, and audit-ready designs for regulated environments.
-
Inline, Space-Saving Design
The unit is designed for direct integration into pneumatic conveying lines and features a compact profile suitable for vertical or horizontal installations. Standard and custom pipe connections make retrofitting easy with minimal pressure loss or disruption to material flow.
-
Improved Worker Safety and Productivity
By eliminating manual cleaning, operators are no longer exposed to hot or confined areas, sharp ferrous debris, or the need to disassemble heavy components. The automation reduces labor requirements and maintenance time.
-
Programmable Cleaning Control
Can be integrated with a PLC or supplied with a standalone controller to schedule cleaning intervals based on material type, production volume, or sensor feedback, ensuring optimal performance with minimal operator oversight.
-
Contaminant Discharge Port
A dedicated discharge chute allows collected ferrous materials to be ejected to a bin or sealed container, keeping metal fragments completely isolated from the product stream for superior cleanliness and safety.
Self-Clean Inline Pneumatic Drawer Magnet Product Details
The Self-Clean Inline Pneumatic Drawer Magnet operates within a sealed housing installed directly in a pressurized conveying line. It uses a multi-row array of high-strength magnetic tubes to capture ferrous metal contaminants from the flowing product.
Separation Process
Material Flow
Product (powder, pellet, granule, etc.) flows through the housing, which contains staggered rare-earth magnetic tubes arranged to maximize contact with the stream.
Contaminant Capture
Ferrous particles are attracted to and held tightly on the surface of the magnetic tubes as clean material continues downstream.
Self-Cleaning Cycle
At scheduled intervals or upon signal:
- Pneumatic actuators automatically retract the magnetic cores from inside the tube sleeves.
- As the magnetic field collapses inside the flow zone, internal stripper plates travel across the sleeves and mechanically wipe off the collected ferrous debris.
- Metal fragments are ejected through a discharge chute to a collection container outside the product flow.
Automatic Reset
After cleaning, the magnetic cores return to their operating position, reactivating the magnetic field. The system resumes continuous metal separation, without interrupting production.
This automation eliminates human error, ensures consistent contaminant removal, and increases line efficiency.
