Residual magnetism often remains in metal after exposure to magnetic fields, depending on the material type and size. To eliminate this, the workpiece must be subjected to an alternating magnetic field that reduces magnetism to the lowest possible level. MPI’s handheld demagnetizers generate this field, allowing users to demagnetize objects easily and effectively by slowly moving the unit across and away from the surface.

MPI offers two models tailored to different workpiece sizes and thicknesses, with the HD2 model designed for larger or thicker components. Both models feature high demagnetization power in a compact, lightweight plastic housing with a large handle for easy maneuverability. Operation is simple with a push-button control and built-in overheating protection. The unit runs on 110 VAC and includes a 10-foot power supply cable. It is recommended for use with a 20% duty cycle and a maximum operating time of 10 minutes. Handheld Demagnetizer Product Details

How It Works
Magnetized workpieces cross the electrical plane exposing the workpiece to an opposite magnetic field creating an irregular magnetic field. By slow movement across the top plate and away, the unwanted residual magnetism is effectively removed from object.

 

When a magnetized workpiece crosses the electrical plane of the handheld demagnetizer, it is exposed to an alternating magnetic field that is opposite in polarity. This exposure disrupts the uniform magnetic alignment within the material, creating an irregular and diminishing magnetic field. As the operator slowly moves the demagnetizer across the surface of the object and then gradually pulls it away, the alternating field penetrates the material, neutralizing any retained magnetism. This controlled movement allows the magnetic domains within the workpiece to randomize and return to a non-magnetized, or near-zero, state. As a result, unwanted residual magnetism is effectively and safely removed, ensuring the part is ready for further processing or safe handling.
