MPI Provides Third Party Magnet Certification Auditing Services for Food Manufacturer Facing Staffing Constraints

Customer Challenges

Staffing shortage prevents global dairy supplier to perform required magnet audit that had previously been handled internally. Plant is operational six days a week and requires a two day audit for 70 magnetic separators. Internal quality assurance staff request for third party auditing to assist with workload issues. Corporate guidelines require all vendors to be approved through proprietary system. Paperwork process is three weeks. The audit deadline is one month from initial scheduling request.

MPI Solution

Dairy supplier contacted MPI online to Schedule An Audit or Assessment to provide third party audit testing. Working with a tight deadline, MPI completed the necessary paperwork for onsite work authorization. MPI regional Certified Magnet Auditors scheduled and conducted the magnet audit prior to customer deadline request.

Of the 70 magnets in operation, MPI evaluated 39 magnets that were available for pull value testing. The plant could not shut down operations for testing all magnets and remaining separators will be assessed at a future date.

Results

During the magnet audit, our customer was reassured 35 magnets were working at peak performance and a small amount need maintenance. One magnetic separator tested pull values below recommended levels. This immediate feedback allowed the customer to make the necessary changes to avoid contamination in the product stream which could lead to a product recall.

The customer received a comprehensive magnet audit report detailing the magnetic separation equipment performance. The quality assurance staff had the magnet audit completed on time and without extra stress on their limited resources. Satisfied with the results, the team is also suggesting to management to adopt third party magnet auditing as a new corporate policy for all production facilities.
